Michael James Lovejoy

On Saturday, April 9, 1994, approximately 2:15 p.m. Michael James Lovejoy, age 35 years, was found dead in the sleeper portion of his transport tractor. He had been shot several times.

Lovejoy had been employed for 5 weeks by RTS Transport Inc. and worked out of Flint, Michigan where he lived with his wife and one child. His white 1991 GMC tractor was pulling a white trailer, both with red and blue RTS lettering. Investigation reveals Lovejoy left the American Axle & Manufacturing plant in Buffalo, New York, on Friday, April 8, 1994, shortly before 11:00 a.m. He entered Canada via the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge at approximately 12:20 p.m. His cargo of automotive axles was destined for the GMC truck and bus plant, Pontiac, Michigan, with a scheduled arrival time of 10:00 p.m.

Witnesses have identified Lovejoy's vehicle pulling onto the westbound shoulder of Highway #403, Brantford, approximately one mile east of the Park Road North (now Wayne Gretzky Parkway) off ramp between 1:30 and 1:45 p.m., Friday, April 8, 1994. Lovejoy's shoes and socks were on the floor of the driver's seat. His wrist watch alarm was set to sound at 5:30 p.m.

In excess of 300 tips have been received from the public. Several citizens report seeing a transport tractor-trailer unit similar in colour and markings to RTS tractor-trailers parked behind the Lovejoy unit on the afternoon of Friday, April 8, 1994. A male was reportedly seen walking from the Lovejoy vehicle to the rear tractor-trailer unit. This male has not been identified.
