Citizens' Police Academy
Citizens’ Police Academy - Now Accepting Applications
Have you ever wondered what it's really like to be a police officer?
The Brantford Police Service is now accepting applications for its popular Citizens' Police Academy, a free, interactive program that offers community members a behind-the-scenes look at modern policing.
The five-week program will be held Wednesday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m, beginning October 28, 2026 and concluding November 25, 2026. Space is limited, and interested applicants are encouraged to apply early. The application deadline is Thursday, September 10, 2026.
The first Citizens' Police Academy was formed in the United Kingdom in 1977. Our Service's first Academy began on March 25, 1999. An eight-week program, the facilitator was BPS retired Chief of Police Derek McElveny.
Each Academy has been structured as an interactive, information-sharing evening, similar to a night school class. Community members who have attended, leave the program with a better understanding of the unique challenges and responsibilities that the members of the Brantford Police Service face every day.
